A fascinating itinerary through the contrasting landscapes of Argentina and Chile. You will begin in Buenos Aires, a vibrant capital where European elegance blends with the captivating rhythm of tango. Then head north to the impressive Iguazú Falls, natural wonders listed by UNESCO. The rest of the journey takes you to the heart of Patagonia: El Chaltén and El Calafate. Three days of trekking immerse you in spectacular scenery, between mythical mountains such as Fitz Roy, glacial lagoons, and southern forests. You will also explore the glaciers on a cruise boat and stay in an authentic estancia. Then, in Chile, experience an unforgettable adventure in Torres del Paine National Park: three days of trekking among turquoise lakes, wild valleys, and majestic granite peaks. End on a high note with a visit to Magdalena Island, home to thousands of Magellanic penguins, before returning to El Calafate. An intense and complete journey, combining grandiose nature, local culture, and unforgettable discoveries.

Day-by-day program

DAY 1 EUROPE 🡲 BUENOS AIRES

Outbound international flight

Welcome at Ezeiza International Airport by our French-speaking guide, then transfer to the hotel located in the heart of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina with more than 14 million inhabitants. Gathering nearly 1/3 of the country’s population, this fascinating city is bordered by the Rio de la Plata, the widest river in the world separating it from Uruguay. Check-in at the hotel, breakfast, then city tour.

In the evening, we will dine in a typical restaurant accompanied by a magnificent Tango show.

We will continue our discovery of this great metropolis, both unique and original, always lively day and night. We will begin with the very colorful Boca neighborhood, followed by Recoleta with its Parisian atmosphere, ending with the Italo-Andalusian Palermo. Free afternoon allowing you to discover Buenos Aires on your own according to your interests. In the evening, we will dine in a typical Argentine Parilla restaurant.

We will fly to the city of Puerto Iguazú then, after dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we will head calmly to the city of Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazilian side for lunch. In the afternoon, we will take a walk on the walkway offering an exceptional panoramic view. For those who wish, a helicopter flight over the Iguazú Falls is optional. Return to the hotel in the evening.

Today we will admire the falls from the Argentine side, spending the whole day doing several short hikes through the park to reach the various spectacular viewpoints of the waterfalls. Train ride to the “Devil’s Throat,” then upper and lower circuit trails (Hike 8km; 4h).

Optional boat excursion to the foot of the falls. Return to the hotel in the evening.

This day will be a transit stage. Departure to the airport where we will reach the city of El Chaltén via Buenos Aires and El Calafate, the ideal starting point for visiting the great glaciers of Patagonia. Arrival at El Calafate airport, transfer by bus to your hotel in El Chaltén. This town of 600 inhabitants, which was created to mark the border with Chile, is anchored at the foot of the southern Andes at the gates of Los Glaciares National Park with an incredible view of Mount Fitz Roy. The name “Chaltén” comes from the Tehuelche language (native Argentine community) “Chaltel,” meaning “blue.” Free time.

Departure from the hotel for a beautiful hike in the area. You will head towards the Rio de las Vueltas Valley, from which you will follow the riverbed to its source. Along the way, you will arrive at an exceptional viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the Cordon Adela and the granite spires of Cerro Torre. One of the particularities of Cerro Torre is its 800m wall, making it one of the most feared mountains by climbers. You will then cross the De Agostini base camp and about 20 minutes later reach Laguna Torre. This lagoon is often filled with blocks of ice breaking off from the Grande Glacier. Return afterwards to El Chaltén to the hotel.

Departure from the hotel for another beautiful hike in the area dedicated to observing Mount Fitz Roy, located at the northern limit of Los Glaciares National Park, close to the Chilean border. This mountain is characterized by its peaks (3405m) rising like true needles. Indigenous populations (Tehuelche) called it the smoking mountain because of the almost permanent mist surrounding it. Mountaineers from all over the world come to challenge this mythical mountain, one of the most difficult summits on the planet. During this hiking day, you will reach the Rio Blanco camp and Laguna Capri. From there, you will continue a little higher to Laguna de los Tres, offering an incredible panoramic view of the summit of Mount Fitz Roy. Return to the hotel.

Departure from the hotel for one last demanding hike in the region lasting 8 hours with a significant elevation gain. This trail is one of the least traveled in the National Park, allowing you to access a 360º viewpoint from which you can observe the Fitz Roy, Torre, and Toro valleys with a superb view of the gigantic Lake Viedma. Departure from El Chaltén on the trail leading to Laguna Toro. After one hour of ascent, crossing streams and small Lenga forests, you will reach a more arid and open plateau offering panoramic views of the Fitz Roy, Torre, and Huemul mountains. You will continue through “Pampa de las Carretas,” crossing a dense forest full of birds, before arriving at a mountain-pass-like area. The Patagonian wind will be felt during the ascent to the summit of Pliegue Tumbado, where you will have your picnic facing these magnificent landscapes: glaciers, Fitz Roy peaks, Cerro Torre. Return afterwards to El Chaltén to the hotel.

Transfer by bus to Calafate, then free afternoon.

Early this morning we will start by taking the road that runs along Lake Argentino to the Puerto Bandera pier located about 50 km from El Calafate. We will board our catamaran and begin a navigation on the largest lake in Argentina, between icebergs and glaciers, until we reach the estancia that was built by an Englishman who settled in Patagonia with his wife in the 1900s. Upon arrival, we will start with a visit of the small family museum followed by an excursion to the Upsala viewpoint, where we will enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the Los Glaciares National Park. After a typical Argentine lunch, we will return to El Calafate the same way back to the hotel.

Early this morning, we will take the same road as the day before to board again on Lake Argentino. A new spectacular adventure awaits you in the heart of Patagonia. An unforgettable navigation to discover the ice giants. You will approach up close the majestic glaciers that flow into the lake, including the famous Upsala Glacier surrounded by imposing icebergs, the Spegazzini Glacier, as well as the unmissable Perito Moreno. An immersive experience up close to the forces of nature.

Departure towards the Argentine/Chilean border for a transfer to Laguna Amarga, to enter the famous Torres del Paine Park, a jewel of Patagonia. It is always emotional to gradually glimpse the ‘Cuernos del Paine’. Cerro Castillo. After completing a form and paying the entrance fee, you will take a connecting bus to reach the Las Torres hotel, starting point of your trek the next day. Night at Central Refuge.

Long ascent to the French Valley. A huge amphitheater of granite walls (among the greatest vertical walls in the world, 1000 m and more). The path is long, but at the end the reward is worth the effort: unforgettable. Descent and continuation to our camp at the foot of the immense two-tone granite walls of the Cuernos del Paine.

(Elevation: +1000m; –1000m; Distance: 20 km, 10h trekking)

Included: full board – night in refuge

Pleasant stage, starting along the magnificent turquoise-blue Lake Nordenskjöld, at the foot of the Cuernos del Paine, then Monte Almirante Nieto. The trail then moves away from the lake to reach our camp near the Las Torres refuge.

(Elevation: +150m; –200m; Distance: 13 km, 4h trekking)

Without backpack, round-trip hike to the Lake of the Towers of Paine. Superb and varied stage: the route starts in the forest, continues through a valley, then climbs the moraines to the lake. Spectacular view of the three perfectly aligned granite towers dominating the turquoise lake. The viewpoint leaves us speechless, a beautiful way to end this trek. Descent and transfer to Puerto Natales.

We take the road to Punta Arenas in a comfortable bus for 3 hours. Arrival in Punta Arenas and after lunch we take the boat for an excursion to Magdalena Island located in the Strait of Magellan. Two hours of navigation on the route of Drake, Sarmiento de Gamboa, Magellan and Darwin. This wild place is classified as a Natural Monument to protect the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in Chile (More than 60,000 pairs). Return to Punta Arenas and night at the hotel.

This morning, visit of downtown Punta Arenas, which reflects the wealth of this city at the beginning of the 1900s. Visit of the main square, Cerro la Cruz viewpoint, and the city cemetery. In the afternoon we take the regular bus back to Puerto Natales.

This morning return to El Calafate by bus to arrive at the village of El Calafate. Afternoon visit of Laguna Nimez. Night in El Calafate.

This morning transfer to El Calafate airport and flight to Buenos Aires, then transfer to the hotel.
